Nancy Thompson, of Little Cove Farm in Port Republic, chose a maple leaf design for her barn quilt square as a tribute to her late husband Richard 'Rick' Thompson, an ardent environmentalist who planted the maple trees that surround the jousting field at their local Christ Church. Nancy was an educator for 29 years teaching Horticulture and Biology at various schools in Prince George's County, and now she says she is 'the steward of the gardens' that surround her home. Little Cove Farm, purchased 39 years ago and lovingly restored by Rick and Nancy, dates back to the 1820's and is CT 44 on the Maryland Inventory of Historic Properties. In their honor, this square will be known as 'The Steward's Square' on the Calvert Barn Quilt Trail. Please view the square from the side of the road and be aware of two-way traffic. Many thanks to Phil Pfanschmidt for his help building the square and to Bill Sells and Joe Trevisan and Nancy Thompson's son, Mike Metz, for their help installing the 19th square on the Calvert Barn Quilt Trail.
